Environmental Change Awareness Initiative around the Republic

Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank Egypt announced the sponsorship of “Journey to the Climate Summit”, in an initiative to raise awareness of climate change, which is launched today under the auspices of the Ministries of Planning and Economic Development, Youth, Sports, Environment and Military Production, and in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program and the Sustainable Services Project funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), ahead of Egypt’s hosting of the Summit Climate COP27 next November .

The bank’s sponsorship for this innovative initiative comes in implementation of the bank’s plan to achieve sustainability and spread environmental awareness, especially for the young generation, to make a real difference and build a better future for Egypt, in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030, and the National Strategy 2050 and the sustainable development goals of the United Nations.

The bank’s plan to achieve sustainability is in line with the vision of Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank Group, which announced the launch of an integrated sustainability strategy and issued green bonds as part of its commitment to environmental, social and corporate governance practices to support financing initiatives aimed at reducing carbon emissions in line with the goals and aspirations of the UAE to build an inclusive economy free of emissions . The Group is committed to supporting green finance by allocating 35 billion Dirhams by 2030 .

The “Journey to the Climate Summit” initiative is the first of its kind in the world, which includes the use of electric motor sport to serve environmental goals. The biker Ali Abdo, is an environmental activist and the first Arab to set a record on an electric vehicle. He is one of the graduates of the “Be an Ambassador” initiative of the Ministry of Planning and the National Institute governance and sustainable development.

The initiative aims to encourage young people to participate in various efforts to address climate change , raise awareness , and promote Egypt’s hosting of the COP27 Climate Summit in Sharm El Sheikh. The trip starts from Abu Simbel in Aswan to Sharm El-Sheikh and lasts for 30 days, passing through more than 40 stations around the governorates of Egypt – as the longest trip in the world on an electric bike, which aims to be recorded in the Guinness Book of Records .

This initiative is directed towards individuals in all the governorates that the trip is going through, in addition to local and international civil society institutions, focusing on school and university students. During his trip, the adventurer Ali Abdo visits a number of schools and universities with the aim of raising youth awareness of climate change in order to urge everyone to support the National Strategy 2050, which aims to achieve sustainable economic growth with low emissions in various sectors, in addition to building resilience and the ability to adapt to climate changes and mitigate its negative effects.
