As part of its sustainability strategy and ongoing commitment to innovation and the transition toward a green economy, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB) announced the renewal of its strategic partnership with the NilePreneurs Initiative, affiliated with Nile University, to launch the third edition of the ClimaTech Accelerator 2025, a specialized program supporting startups and SMEs operating in the environmental sector.

This year’s edition focuses on advancing the circular plastic economy in Egypt. The announcement was made during the official launch ceremony attended by representatives from ADCB and NilePreneurs, along with a distinguished group of experts and officials from the Central Bank of Egypt, the Ministry of Environment, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), and Nile University.

The ClimaTech Accelerator aims to attract and support top entrepreneurial talents in the field of climate technology, expanding their impact through innovative solutions and raising awareness of the urgency of addressing climate challenges. Spanning six months, the program provides a comprehensive platform to accelerate the growth of 10 scale-up companies by offering interactive content and specialized mentorship that enhances business efficiency, governance, and marketing strategies.

Based on an in-depth study of Egyptian market needs and global sustainability trends, this edition focuses on promoting the circular economy in key areas such as bioplastics, recycling, sustainable packaging, construction technologies utilizing recycled plastics, and digital sustainability solutions.

In conjunction with the program’s launch and the opening of applications for startups, Nile University, supported by ADCB, organized an awareness seminar titled “Scaling Climate Tech Startups to Address Plastic Waste Challenges in Egypt: Opportunities and Gaps in the Ecosystem.” The event aimed to introduce the ClimaTech Accelerator 2025, while emphasizing the importance of adopting sustainable business models that address environmental challenges linked to single-use plastics and construction waste. The seminar hosted speakers from the Ministry of Environment, UNIDO, and GIZ.

Mr. Ihab ElSewerky, Managing Director and CEO of ADCB Egypt, stated:

“ADCB’s continued support for the ClimaTech Accelerator across three editions reflects our steadfast sustainability vision and environmental responsibility. It reaffirms our commitment to empowering startups and SMEs working in climate technologies. Supporting the green economy and entrepreneurship remains one of our top priorities, as part of our contribution to achieving Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Through our partnership with the NilePreneurs Initiative and Nile University, we are building an integrated ecosystem that fosters innovation and promotes resource efficiency and this edition focuses on developing recycling solutions to reduce the environmental impact of industrial and construction activities , representing a pivotal step toward building a more resilient and sustainable economy .”

Eng. Ahmed Saleh, Executive Director of the Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Competitiveness Center at Nile University, added:

“We are building a new generation of entrepreneurs capable of developing practical and sustainable solutions that address both environmental and economic challenges. The circular economy is no longer a luxury — it is a necessity for building a secure, innovation-driven future committed to environmental protection and resource development.”

He further noted that the center works hand-in-hand with NilePreneurs to support entrepreneurs across various sectors related to sustainable development, particularly those focused on clean technologies and green transformation. The center also seeks to bridge the gap between scientific research and real-world application by turning innovative ideas into tangible projects that create jobs and enhance Egypt’s competitiveness both locally and globally.

Dr. Essam Roshdy, Acting President of Nile University, emphasized that hosting this seminar reflects the university’s vision and mission in supporting sustainable development and entrepreneurship in Egypt. He affirmed that Nile University continues to serve as a leading academic platform linking research with industry, fostering collaboration with national and international institutions to advance the green transition and strengthen the country’s innovation ecosystem.

The event concluded by underscoring that the partnership between Nile University, the NilePreneurs Initiative, and Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank represents an exemplary model of collaboration between the academic, financial, and entrepreneurial sectors — a model driving sustainable development and supporting Egypt’s transformation toward a green economy.
