The certificate includes its headquarters and 20% of its branch network across the country
EDGE certificate is provided by the International Finance Corporation
member of the World Bank Group, to address the environmental footprint of the built environment, and aims to reduce the environmental impact of buildings in three areas: direct energy consumption, water consumption, and the energy footprint of building materials.
The headquarters of Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank in New Cairo obtained the EDGE certificate in less than a year after its opening, which is considered a great achievement , in addition to 11 branches in Cairo, Alexandria and Upper Egypt also obtained the certificate, representing more than 20% of the bank’s branch network across the country. On this occasion, Ihab ElSewerky, CEO and Managing Director of ADCB Egypt, expressed his happiness, saying, “We are proud to obtain the EDGE Green Building Certification, which is a great achievement and a milestone in the bank’s journey towards implementing our sustainability strategy. It is a tangible proof for our commitment to achieving efficiency and innovation in
all the bank’s activities and operations, especially with regard to climate, as we work on three main axes: First, customers to support them in their transition to a green economy by providing innovative banking products and entering into partnerships with international institutions to provide them with technical support and expand the financing of their projects that achieve sustainability; Second, the community by sponsoring and financing sustainable community projects as well as innovative entrepreneurs; and finally, the internal axis or the bank’s operations by using artificial intelligence and robotics in internal operations to reduce the carbon footprint and upgrades the services provided to customers in parallel to adopting energy efficiency and improving the use of resources, which in turn contributes to achieving a positive environmental impact in society, which was recently confirmed by obtaining the EDGE Certification.”
It is worth noting that Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank Egypt’s obtaining the EDGE certificate comes within the framework of its long-term strategic practices to promote a more sustainable banking environment that contributes to achieving economic and environmental goals and enhancing the green economy and sustainable development in Egypt, by reducing operating costs, enhancing asset value, and contributing to the global sustainability agenda. This is in line with the Abu Dhabi Commercial Group’s sustainability goals, which support Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the global sustainable development goals, especially in the areas of promoting clean energy, green infrastructure, sustainable cities, and climate action. The bank has received a number of prestigious awards in the field of sustainability and climate action, the most recent of which was the “Excellence and Banking Achievement Award in Supporting Sustainable Finance and Climate Action in Egypt for the Year 2024” from the World Union of Arab Bankers, in addition to awards in the field of commitment to environmental, social and governance standards, such as the “Most Innovative/Best ESG Integration Framework” award from International Finance Magazine and the “Best Green Community Development Initiative” award from Global Brands.
